Quick answers

Is Music Maker free and private?

Yes. Sounds, editing and export all run in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Your song is saved only in this browser and in the project files you download.

Where do the sounds come from?

Drums and synths are synthesized live in your browser, with Tone.js and our own drum synthesis. The piano uses the Salamander Grand Piano samples by Alexander Holm, released under CC-BY 3.0.

How to use the Music Maker

  1. Start from the demo song or a template in the Project tab, or add tracks with drums, synths or piano.
  2. Click steps in the Beat view or draw notes in the Piano roll; press Rec to play them in with your computer keyboard or a MIDI keyboard.
  3. Arrange patterns on the Song timeline, then balance levels, effects and sends in the Mixer and Sound tabs.
  4. Export the song, the loop or the pattern as WAV or MP3, stems in a ZIP, or a MIDI file, and save the project as JSON.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Pattern and Song mode?

Pattern mode loops the pattern selected on each track, which is handy while you write. Song mode plays the arrangement from the Song view, optionally looping a region.

Can I use a MIDI keyboard?

Yes, in browsers with Web MIDI (Chrome, Edge, Opera and Firefox on desktop). Press Connect MIDI, then play or record into the selected pattern. The computer keyboard works in every browser.

Which files can I export?

WAV or MP3 of the whole song, the loop region or the pattern loop, a ZIP with one stem per track, a MIDI file with every instrument, and a JSON project you can open again later.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Tap pads and steps, drag notes, and use the Scroll tool to move around the piano roll. A larger screen is more comfortable for the piano roll and the arranger.
